Resume

Matt Adams is a Portfolio Manager at Dowling & Yahnke, an independent, fee-only registered investment adviser.

Matt is a member of the Firm’s Marketing and Client Service Committees. Matt is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®). He completed his undergraduate work at UC Santa Barbara where he majored in Business Economics and Accounting, graduating cum laude. He was also an intercollegiate men’s volleyball scholar athlete at UCSB.

Prior to joining Dowling & Yahnke, Matt spent 15 years in the financial services industry in various capacities. He started his career as a Certified Public Accountant with Deloitte, a global accounting firm, where he worked in their San Diego, Sydney and London offices. More recently, he was a wealth manager at a San Diego-based independent advisory firm.

Matt is a San Diego native. Having grown up in Olivenhain, he now lives in Solana Beach with his wife and their twin girls.

Why did you join Dowling & Yahnke?

The brain trust of this advisory team is remarkable. We collaborate on client cases to ensure every client is well served. We have big firm sophistication in our investment management and financial planning processes, in a boutique firm setting. It really is the best of both worlds for our clients.

What quality of yours makes you best suited for what you do?

Because of my background as a CPA, I tend to approach every client situation from a holistic financial planning perspective. Every client should have a personal CFO who can help them make good financial decisions in all aspects of their financial lives.

What is your favorite spot in San Diego?

Wherever our kids can get their hands dirty, be it Fletcher Cove, Powerhouse Park, Birch Aquarium or the San Elijo Lagoon trails.

What is the best gift you have ever received?

Having happy, healthy twin girls now, that spent a long time in the NICU as preemies.  Helping them learn and grow is a continual gift in life.

What personal accomplishments are you most proud of?

Getting an early manager promotion working incredibly long hours in the highly competitive Deloitte London investment banking audit group. I nearly cried when the lead Partner gave me the nod.
